During the initial days after your loss, you may feel like you’re in a fog or overwhelmed. It’s easy to neglect self-care. However, taking care of yourself is important in the process of healing and adapting to a new routine.
For the first days, keep it simple and aim to manage the following:
Eat, sleep, clean, repeat.
Ensure you are getting enough rest, eating well, and engaging in activities that bring you comfort and solace. A change of scenery, such as going for a walk will only help with your mental wellbeing.
Your ability to concentrate is likely to be affected. Take extra care when driving. If you’re doing anything with any kind of risk, such as climbing ladders to get into the loft, take your time to ensure your own health and safety.
Avoid grieving alone. You don’t need to be strong for anyone. Try to find someone you trust to talk to, who you can share how you really feel with. Also, seek professional support if you’re struggling. It’s never too soon to seek help.
